Taurine Affecting Growth Performance, Non-specific Immunity and Antioxidative Competence of Procambarus clarkii
This study aims to investigate the effect of taurine on the growth performance, non-specific immunity and antioxidative competence of Procambarus clarkii. 300 juvenile red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii with initial body weight of (4.50±0.50) g were selected and randomly divided into five groups. The five groups were fed with five isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets with different taurine contents respectively. After feeding for 4 weeks, we investigated the growth performance, biochemical parameters of blood and liver. In 200 and 300 mg/kg treatment groups, some indices were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05), such as the weight gain, dressing percentage, the levels of total protein (TP), lysozyme (LSZ), and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in liver. In 200 and 300 mg/kg treatment groups, serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT) and glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) were lower than those of the control group (P <0.05), which had the statistical difference. In 300 mg/kg treatment group, the activities of GSH-Px and survival rates were significantly higher than those of the control group (P <0.05), feed coefficient was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). However, there was no statistical difference in the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) among the five groups. Therefore, the diet supplemented with 200-300 mg/kg taurine could promote the growth of Procambarus clarkii, improve the non-specific immunity and antioxidative competence, and enhance its disease resistance.

本文旨在研究牛磺酸对草鱼的营养效应。选用体长12.5 -13.0 c m,体重38.1 -38.9 g 的草鱼432尾,随机分为8个处理组,每组54尾,设3个重复,每个重复18尾。在饲料中添加0,200,400,600,800,1 000,1 400,1 800 mg/kg的牛磺酸,以0 mg/kg添加组为对照组,试验期30 d,研究牛磺酸对草鱼生长、品质、消化酶和代谢酶活性的影响。结果表明:(1)牛磺酸促进草鱼生长(除1 800 mg/kg添加量外)。添加量为600 mg/kg时,特定生长率(SGR)、肌肉、肝胰脏RNA/DNA比值、饲料效率(FE)和蛋白质效率最高(P<0.05);(2)饲料中添加牛磺酸后,草鱼体水分含量下降,体蛋白、体脂含量增加(P<0.05 ),灰分含量、内脏指数、肥满度各试验组之间差异不显著
(P>0.05 );( 3 )添加适宜牛磺酸(600-800m g/kg),显著提高肝胰脏和肠道脂肪酶、淀粉酶的活性(P<0.05 );( 4 )牛磺酸具有促进草鱼肝胰脏和肌肉转氨酶、碱性磷酸酶活性的作用。综合以上结果,草鱼饲料中牛磺酸的最适添加量为600 mg/kg。 {{custom_citation.content}}

研究了日粮中添加牛磺酸对黄河鲤鱼(Cyprinus carpio)生长性能和消化酶活性的影响。选用体重121g左右的黄河鲤鱼450尾,随机分为5个处理组,每组90尾,设3个重复,每个重复30尾,在日粮中添加0、400、800、1200、1600 mg/kg的牛磺酸,以0 mg/kg 添加组为对照组,试验期56d。结果表明:牛磺酸促进黄河鲤鱼生长,添加量为800 mg/kg时, 生物学综合评价最高、饵料系数最低(P<0.05); 添加适宜牛磺酸(800-1200mg/kg) ,显著提高肝胰脏和肠道蛋白酶、脂肪酶、淀粉酶的活性(P<0.05)。结果提示,黄河鲤鱼日粮中牛磺酸的最适添加量为800 mg/kg 。

A search for antibacterial activity in different body-parts of Pandalus borealis (northern shrimp), Pagurus bernhardus (hermit crab), Hyas araneus (spider crab) and Paralithodes camtschatica (king crab) was conducted. Dried samples were extracted with 60% (v/v) acetonitrile, containing 0.1% (v/v) trifluoroacetic acid, and further extracted and concentrated on C18 cartridges. Eluates from the solid phase extraction were tested for antibacterial, lysozyme and haemolytic activity. Antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Vibrio anguillarum, Corynebacterium glutamicum and Staphylococcus aureus was detected in extracts from several tissues in all species tested, but mainly in the haemolymph and haemocyte extracts. V. anguillarum and C. glutamicum were generally the most sensitive micro-organisms. In P. borealis and P. bernhardus most of the active fractions were not affected by proteinase K treatment, while in H. araneus and P. camtschatica most fractions were sensitive to proteinase K treatment, indicating antibacterial factors of proteinaceous nature. In P. bernhardus the active fractions were generally heat labile, whereas in H. araneus the activities were resistant to heat. Differences between active extracts regarding hydrophobicity and sensitivity for heat and proteinase K treatment indicate that several compounds are responsible for the antibacterial activities detected. Lysozyme-like activity could be detected in some fractions and haemolytic activity against human red blood cells could be detected in haemolymph/haemocyte and exoskeleton extracts from all species tested.

A free radical is any molecule that has an odd number of electrons. Free radicals, which can occur in both organic (i.e., quinones) and inorganic molecules (i.e., O(2)), are highly reactive and, therefore, transient. Free radicals are generated in vivo as by products of normal metabolism. They are also produced when an organism is exposed to ionizing radiation, to drugs capable of redox cycling, or to xenobiotics that can form free radical metabolites in situ. Cellular targets at risk from free radical damage depend on the nature of the radical and its site of generation. In this review we survey cellular sources of free radicals and the reactions they can undergo and discuss cellular defenses and adaptive mechanisms.

Influence of housefly maggot meal (magmeal) diets on the activities of catalase (CAT), glutathione S-transferase (GST) and glycogen concentration in liver of Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus fingerling was evaluated. Triplicate groups of fifteen fish (initial average weight 2.0+/-0.1 g) were fed eight weeks with seven test diets (in average 36% crude protein, dry matter) formulated by replacing fish meal with magmeal. Percentage body weight gain (591-724.46%), food conversion ratio (1.05-1.22) and standard growth rate (3.45-3.76) in all feeding groups were not significantly different (P&lt;0.05). No significant difference (P&lt;0.05) was observed in liver glycogen reserve (175.27-236.88 micromol g(-1)) among the fish groups. Hepatic catalase activity also did not differ significantly. However, elevated glutathione S-transferases activities were observed when fish received higher dietary magmeal concentration. This might have been temporary with no real physiological implication when appraised by the growth responses. These results indicate that magmeal was well utilized by the fish and its incorporation into tilapia diets seems to have no oxidative stress generating effect on fish metabolism and may not be containing any compound that stimulates the generation of reactive oxygen species. Magmeal can effectively be used as an alternative protein source in tilapia fingerling production.

An imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants in favour of the oxidants, potentially leading to damage, is termed 'oxidative stress'. Oxidants are formed as a normal product of aerobic metabolism but can be produced at elevated rates under pathophysiological conditions. Antioxidant defense involves several strategies, both enzymatic and non-enzymatic. In the lipid phase, tocopherols and carotenes as well as oxy-carotenoids are of interest, as are vitamin A and ubiquinols. In the aqueous phase, there are ascorbate, glutathione and other compounds. In addition to the cytosol, the nuclear and mitochondrial matrices and extracellular fluids are protected. Overall, these low molecular mass antioxidant molecules add significantly to the defense provided by the enzymes superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidases.

An experiment was conducted to investigate bioaccumulation potential of cadmium (Cd) and changes in oxidative stress indices in liver and kidney tissues from Cd-exposed catfish (Clarias batrachus) with or without simultaneous treatment of water with ascorbic acid, garlic extract or taurine. C. batrachus (n=324) with average length of 20+/-4 cm and weight of 86+/-5 g were used for the present investigation. Fishes were divided into nine groups (I to IX) each comprising 36 fishes. The fishes of groups II, III, IV and V were challenged with 5 ppm of cadmium chloride monohydrate (CdCl2.H2O), whereas groups VI, VII, VIII and IX were exposed to 10 ppm CdCl2.H2O solution for a period of 45 days. Group I was kept as negative control and the fishes of this group were maintained in water containing no added Cadmium. Group II and VI were maintained as Cd exposed non treated control to serve as positive controls. Fishes of III and VII, IV and VIII, V and IX received ascorbic acid (5 ppm), extract of dried garlic (5 ppm) or taurine (5 ppm), respectively during the entire experiment period. The concentrations of Cd in liver and kidney increased significantly following exposure to Cd and the level continued to rise with the increase in exposure duration. Treatment of tank water with ascorbic acid, garlic or taurine significantly reduced the Cd concentrations in tissues compared to the positive control group, but the level in Cd exposed groups was greater than the negative control group. Fishes exposed to Cd and treated with ascorbic acid, garlic or taurine had reduced oxidative stress as evidenced from lower concentration of lipid peroxides and higher activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase in liver, kidney and erythrocytes compared to fishes exposed to Cd. The reduction in Cd induced oxidative stress was highest in ascorbic acid treated group followed by garlic and taurine treatment. The results suggest that ascorbic acid, garlic and taurine have potential to reduce tissue accumulation of Cd and associated oxidative stress in freshwater catfish.
