To speed up the precious timbers genetic improving progress of Taxus wallichiana var. maireiS. Based on the precious timber breeding objectives of fast growing and high lumber qualityS,46 plus trees ofST. wallichiana var. maireiSSwere selectedSformSS6 provinces 9 excellent provenances,Sand plus treeSfamilySprogeny testS were constructed in MingxiSCounty in Fujian province. And then the excellent families by using the multi-objective decision methodand plus trees combination was carried out .The results showed that there were abundant variations within the T. wallichiana var. maireiSand very significant difference among families growth characters, i.e. height, diameter, crown width, length of shoot in current year and stem form characters , i.e. forking ratio, ratio of height to diameter, branch numbers, branchSdensities, max-branch length, max-branch diameter. Change ranges of the family broad heritability for growth andSstem form traits of 3-year-old seedlings from different families were 0.5027~0.8570, whereas, individual heritahility of 3-year-old seedlings were 0.1973~0.7988. 10 excellent families were preliminary selectedS from the testedS46 familiesSwith an averageSSgenetic gain for growth andSstem form characters were -34.71%~20.45%. Also,31Sexcellent individuals were preliminary selectedSSfrom 8 excellent families, and their averageSgenetic gain for growth andSstem form characters were-86.26%~38.79%. These selected familiesSandSindividualsScould be used for seed orchardSor vegetative propagation.
