Abstract: In order to provide a reference for the regional policy and realize the harmonious development of economy and environment in Henan Province, the interaction between economic and environmental factors of the cities in Henan Province was explored to comprehensively identify the cities’ coupling status of economy and environment. Based on the data of 18 cities in Henan Province from 2008 to 2012, the correlation degree model and coupling degree model between economy and environment were built by using gray correlation analysis. Quantitatively analysis was conducted to analyze the main influencing factors and the correlation of the economy and environment system from the aspects of both time and space. The results showed that both the stress effect of economic development, especially economic structure and strength, on the ecological environment and the binding force of ecological environment, especially environmental construction and management, on economic development were larger in Henan Province. Spatial variation of economy and environment coupling degree of cities in Henan Province was significant with 4 types which were coordination, less coordination, antagonism and low-level coupling, among which less coordination and antagonistic were two main types. Coupling degree of economy and environment of Henan Province was increasing overall from 2008 to 2012 with a relative large fluctuation.
