Abstract

Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) involves a virus delivery vector carrying a short sequence of targeted gene to infect plant, which could cause plant homologous gene silencing and phenotypic variation, and the gene function is analyzed by phenotypic variation. It is a recently developed technique of plant gene function research. In order to explore the application strategy of VIGS, in this review, molecular mechanism of VIGS, VIGS vectors development and the application of VIGS in plant abiotic stresses were introduced. The problems and application value of VIGS in plant abiotic stresses were obtained.
