Abstract

Aim to increase the diversity of timber tree species and ease the timber single issue in Jianghan plain of Hubei Province, the introduction and early stage selection of 30 male-sterile clones of Catalpa fargesii f. duclouxii were conducted. Based on the measurement traits of tree diameter at breast height and tree height for 3 years in succession, the analysis of variance and comparison of genetic parameters were carried out. The results showed that the average diameter and height for 1 year old clones of Catalpa fargesii f. duclouxii were 2.49 cm and 2.94 m, for 2 years old they were 4.29 cm and 4.22 m, and for 3 years old they were 6.31 cm and 6.06 m, respectively. An extremely significant variation of growth was found among clones based on the results of ANOVA. The repeatability of diameter and height for the 3rd year were 63.89% and 67.48%, respectively. The correlations between diameter and height at different ages were extremely significant. 4 fine clones were chosen with the selection rate of 12.5% based on the integrated assessment by weighted coefficient method.
