Abstract

Predatory arthropods of Thrips palmi (Karny) were surveyed from the spring of 2001 through to the spring of 2002 in non-sprayed vegetable crops in guangdong province. The predatory fauna comprised arthropods in 10 families. The anthocorid bugs Orius. Similis Zheng and the mirid bugs Campylomma chinensis Schuh and Dortus chinai Miyamoto were the most numerous and widely distributed species observed, constituting 95% of all predators. Of these indigenous predators, C. chinensis is most likely to be effective against Thrips palmi. 54 % Thrips palmi that were preyed by predators were preyed by C. chinensis. C. chinensis can reproduce all around a year. C. chinensis is one of the most potential enemy of controlling thrips palmiin Southern China. The potential of the main 3 species for biological control of Thrips palmiis is discussed.
