Abstract

A series of morphological changes of Hericium erinaceus basidium and basidiospore development was observed with scanning electron microscope at the time of nuclear association and meiosis during the development of fruit-body. According to these changes, their development process was divided into four stages: basidium differentiation stage, basidium swell stage, basidiospore initiation stage and basidium and basidiospore maturing stage. On an immature acicula, these four stages might appear at the same zone simultaneously. But with the maturing of the acicula, basidia and basidiospores were also gradually developed into maturation from the basal part to the tip of an acicula.
